A native San Franciscan, Song Writer, Arranger, jazz vibest, drummer and pianist, Martin Daniels known in the S.F. Bay area Jazz Nightclub scene during the 60’s 70’s, worked with many artists in his home town such as Niko Bunik (Jazz Pianist), famous jazz drummer John Chambers, bass player Bill Boon and Jazz Legend drummer Frank Butler.

Marty lead his own “heard” of Jazzy musicians in S.F. One of his hot bands was the La Bossa Quintet with Tal Rivera a great jazz guitarist, Jimmy Lyons Jazz Pianist, Chuck Bernstein, Lane Welsh, Al Molina flugelhorn & trumpet, Paul Distel and many more. Marty was a student of famous big band vibist of the 40’s, Vernon Walton, and studied also with Ray Hollback who was the first violinist with CBS orchestra in LA. He also took Vibe lessons from Johnny Ray – percussionist & drummer of the famous Cal Tjader Latin Jazz Band.

In the mid 60’s Viet Nam interrupted his career where he did a 2-year tour. Marty also studied in a correspondence course with Berkley School of Music on the GI bill. After returning, he had a sabbatical to heal and went to The San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he was auditioned and accepted to study with principal Tympanis Mr. Roland Kohloff who went on to replace Sal Goodman of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.

The 70’s were spent “on the road” with the Russell, Martin & Scott trio who were very popular from coast to coast and principally residing in Los Angeles Calif.

As a home band working at the Hollywood Hilton, Beverly Hills Hotel and the Mar Monte Hotel Club Terrace Room in Santa Barbara. Marty returned to San Francisco in the mid 70’s and became a barber for 25 years along with playing casuals during that time.

Kathy Daniels,  Marty´s wife, is also a native San Franciscan who spent most of her life as a professional Hair Stylist, always having her singing skills hidden behind her "microphone" comb.

When she hooked up with Marty in 1979, things changed! . With his support and encouragement she began her musical career with their first group TLC— Tender Lovin’ Care (“mind you this was in the late 70’s BEFORE the well known TLC musical group of the early 90’s – if only we had registered that name!!!)

With no formal training other than the coaching of Marty along with constant practice and inspiration from Jazz greats such as Janis Siegel of the Manhattan Transfer, Basia and a vast majority of Divas ranging from Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Diane Reeves, Etta James, Carmen McRae, Astrud Gilberto and the list goes on.

In addition to  with working as a duo, trio and quartet for Night Clubs & Hotels as well as weddings and private parties around the Bay Area they also formed an 8-piece band called Billie Daniels & the Sound.
(Billie was Kathy’s stage name at the time.) – Which consisted of Originals, Latin Jazz, light pop & Jazz Standards The band consisted of a brass section to include Trumpet, Trombone, Sax, Bass, drums, congas, piano & guitar plus Kathy on vocals.

The Sound was phenomenal!!  They played Lake Tahoe & Reno Nevada and Hotels around the San Francisco Bay Area, but keeping 8 pieces together was a lot of work. Marty did all the arranging along with a long time friend Vinny Massaro, doing original scores as well as re-arranging standards.

While vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico  in ’94, and making trout lures at home, they decided to move to Cabo, make bigger lures and create a new  business venture.
They gave up their musical and hairstyling careers in S.F. and moved to Cabo to start a lure business and Fishing Charters. Montana (AKA Marty) custom made each and every lure “by hand” – no molds—out of ceramic. The new  business was very successful for 8 seasons but something was missing !  MUSIC

Martin and Kathly slowly  worked their way back into the music profession, working periodically for different venues ranging from benefits to include the First Liga Mac Jazz Festival, and The Rotary Club Casino night for Casa Hogar on the Cabo Ray.

They  also worked at various restaurants and clubs in the Cabo area, as well as the Fiesta de la Musica. In the past, they have also done parties for the Bisbee’s $3 Million Tournaments with various local artists.

Finally, a concept that had been on the back burner for many years came into play.
